Spot Image presents a comparison of two SPOT 5 images of the disaster area: an archive image acquired 22 August 2009 and another acquired 18 June 2010, two days after the flash flood event. PICARD is an investigation dedicated to the simultaneous measurement of the absolute total and spectral solar irradiance, the diameter and solar shape, and to the Sun's interior probing by the helioseismology method. These measurements obtained all along the mission will allow to study their variations as a function of the solar activity.
Its objectives are to improve our knowledge of: the functioning of our star through new observations, the influence of the solar activity on the climate of the Earth. On April 25th, platform and oil slick were observed by the satellite Spot 5. More information on : http://www.spotimage.com/web/en/3197-oil-spill-in-the-gulf-of-mexico-spot-5-mobilized.php Huge plume of volcanic ashes over Europe by MERIS16 04 2010 - The eruption of Eyjafjöll volcano on April 14th in South Iceland has freed extremely abrasive volcanic ashes. Overlooking an ocean of clouds at the altitude of 11 000 meters the plume is progressing across Europe. MERIS instrument aboard ENVISAT Satellite was able to capture a 300 m resolution photography of the situation. Mr Etienne was travelling along with an engineery model of the future SWARM Magnetometer developed by CNES Teams in Toulouse. This instrument was designed to experience the measurement of magnetic field variations over the North Pole.
